Surgery...

We've made a plan, and that is comforting. Now that we have a plan for our Ozzie, I can see a glimmer of hope again.

He is scheduled to be put under general anesthesia in order to have a CT scan next Wednesday. If he has a solitary pulmonary mass with no lymph nodes in the mediastinum, and if it looks safe and operable, then the surgeon will go ahead and do a left lower lobe lung resection. And from that we will get pathology on the tumor, which I am trying to be positive about. Maybe it will be something benign. Just maybe... And by removing the large mass, he should be able to eat again more comfortably since he will no longer have that big gumba pushing on his esophagus.

And then Ozzie will spend at least two days at the animal hospital before he will be ready to come home after his surgery. The recovery time is expected to be about 2 weeks. So, no matter what this is, Ozzie will be able to go to Colorado with us at the end of July for a week! And if it is something aggressive and malignant, although I am trying to focus on that "glimmer", then we will just take it one step at a time when we get back from Colorado in August. There may be a lot of options that don't entail needless suffering. In addition to wanting Oz to be able to go on this trip with us, we also have "no needless suffering" as a top priority.
