Apparently, when our friend Kim said, "Dude, if you guys can't adopt a child, then no one can!", she was right to reassure us in our slight nervousness that perhaps we wouldn't be accepted by our international agency of choice! Here is the beginning of our acceptance letter into Great Wall's adoption program:
... Dear Marisa and Guy:
Congratulations! Welcome to the Great Wall China Adoption family! We are pleased to inform you that your family is eligible for our adoption program based on the information you provided in your Great Wall application. Your journey is just beginning and we want you to know that we are here to assist you every step of the way.
The stages in your family’s adoption journey will include: the paper chase, referral education (the wait from dossier registration to referral), referral and travel. The time- frame varies by family for the paper chase, the timeframe from dossier registration to referral is currently 42 months, and the average time from referral to travel is 6-8 weeks. As with any international adoption, these timeframes can vary by family and are subject to change at any time. Great Wall will keep our families updated of any modifications in the program. ....
That didn't take very long! We received our notification on September 10th, and plan to review the contract agreement soon. In the meantime, we have a lot of information to gather for our local agency prior to our home study. If anyone would like to sign up to be our personal assistant for the next 3 or 4 years, we are accepting applications for that position now!
